Nursing has been a dream of mine ever since I can remember. I have always loved the idea of working in a hospital in either the NICU or pediatrics. But recently my plans have shifted. I have decided that I want to be a missionary RN. After traveling to Haiti over spring break, my whole life plan has changed. Haiti stole my heart in so many ways! This is a struggling country that needs our help and I am ready. God has way bigger plans for my life than I could ever imagine and I cannot wait to follow him on this journey!

I have decided that I am going to take a semester off and do some traveling and then return in January and start nursing school. I am going to apply to a variety of schools including: Valdosta State University, North Florida Community College, and University of Central Florida.

To prepare for going to third world countries I will need to gain some experience so I will most likely work in a hospital or doctors office before hand. The average salary for nursing is around $66,000.  So during this time I can get a lot of practice and raise enough money to go later on and do missions. I’ve always wanted to work with children but I think it would be smart on my part, to work with all ages because that is what I would be doing in Haiti. I need to gain as much practice as I can while working in the states. It shouldn’t be hard to find a job because nurses are in such high demand right now. I would most likely work under the authority of a physician’s assistant, a nurse practitioner, or a physician.

Missionary Nurses are able to pull together their nursing knowledge as well as their religion in their profession. In foreign countries, nurses are desperately needed. They look at nurses like doctors in some of these places just because these people have no knowledge about medicine. My heart absolutely broke for these sweet people who are dying from infections that would not be deadly if they only had the proper treatment for it. Haiti not only needs nurses and doctors over there, but they also just need basic supplies like Band-Aids and ointments. These things seem so small and you would think that these things were more available to them, but they aren’t.

No matter where God decides to lead me in life, I realize that nursing is a degree I can’t go wrong in. Wherever I go and live, there are always going to be sick people. Which makes me feel very comfortable with my decision and I am glad that I chose such a stable career path for my life.

I have really enjoyed putting this website together. It made me do some research on my career path and I found

out things that I would not have known otherwise and made me very confident about my career choice.
